Dem Campaign Chatter 10-19-2008

Today, Obama is in Fayetteville, North Carolina - Biden is in Tacoma, Washington. North Carolina is very much in play for Obama. On Thursday, the first day of early voting, 114,000 voted in N. Carolina. 64% were Democrats and only 21% were Republicans. McClatchydc.com has more here.

Wow! Obama campaign reports 150 million raised in September! - Campaign Manager David Plouffe sent out an email with a video early this morning informing supporters of this incredible feat. The campaign added 632,000 new donors in the month of September alone and now has over 3.1 million people who have contributed. You can watch the video and join others making a contribution here.

The Democratic National Committee also had a record month for them, as they reported raising 49.9 million in September.

Colin Powell endorses Obama - the former Secretary of State under the Bush administration made the announcement today on "Meet The Press". The Republican will cross Party lines to vote for Obama. He mentioned concern over the pick of Governor Palin as VP and the negative ads being run by the McCain campaign. He said Obama has the "ability to inspire and lead". ThePage.time.com has more here.

Two more major Newspapers endorse Obama - The Denver Post in Colorado and the Miami Herald in Florida both published their endorsements of Obama yesterday.

Governor Palin debuts on SNL - In an opening skit, she appeared talking with Lorne Michaels with Alec Baldwin joining the conversation and thinking she was Tina Fey. Tina Fey, portraying Palin was in the meantime holding a press conference. Baldwin then escorted Palin to the Podium as Tina Fey slinked away. The only words spoken by Palin "Live from New York, It's Saturday Night"! If you missed it, you can watch it here.

President Bush says U.S. will host world economic summit - he made the announcement after a dinner at Camp David last night with French President Sarkozy and European Commission President Barroso. The countries to be invited would include developed and developing countries. The NY Times has more here.
