Dem Campaign Chatter 10-11-2008

George Wenschhof

Today, Obama is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Biden is in Wilmington, Delaware.

--------------------

Obama 49.4%, McCain 42.3% is the current RealClearPolitics.com national poll average - this is an average of nine national polls taken from 10-4 to 10-10-2008. This puts Obama up by 7.1 points. Read more here. Tomorrow, Air-it-Out with George will publish our electoral vote update.

Alaska "Troopergate" report finds Governor Palin abused her authority - The results from the legislative investigation of a state police trooper related to Palin was released yesterday. The report did not find a violation of the law. McClatchydc.com has more here.

This is not a good finding for the McCain campaign, as it will show the abuse of her position by the Governor. The voters have had enough of this with Vice-President Dick Cheney. It will be interesting to see if the Obama campaign uses this report. I doubt it, as the news reports speak for themselves and the Obama campaign does not need to sink to the same level as the gutter style tactics utilized by the McCain campaign of late. It is doubtful this is any kind of a game changer in the election. However, the McCain campaign efforts to link Ayers, Resko etc. may be toned down as it has essentially backfired against McCain.

President Bush issues Press Announcement regarding the economy - during a rose garden photo op at the White House this morning with the finance ministers of the G-7 nations. Not a lot of specifics, more of attempts to ease fears by showing Americans efforts are being made to work together with industrialized countries to resolve the financial crisis.

Although, representatives from these nations met this morning, the NY Times is reporting few concrete steps were offered. Read more here.

McCain campaign personal attacks on Obama continue to backfire - more are coming out denouncing the rabid attacks used by the McCain campaign as desperate measures by a campaign on the ropes. You can now add former Republican Governor of Michigan, William Milliken to the list denouncing the McCain campaign tactics "He is not the McCain I endorsed". Joan Walsh of Salon.com has a great read here.

Add conservative columnist Christopher Buckley to the list supporting Obama. He is the son of the late William Buckley and writes for the National Review, a conservative publication. Read more here.
