Dem Campaign Chatter 10-16-2008

George Wenschhof

Today, Obama is in Londonberry, New Hampshire - later he will attend the Al Smith Dinner in New York. This is a charity dinner for underprivileged children run by the Archdiocese of New York. Obama is expected to speak around 6:30 PM ET. Michelle Obama is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Joe Biden will be in LA and appear on the Jay Leno show tonight - there are some rumors out there that Obama will join him but logistics make that hard as Obama is speaking in New York earlier in the evening - maybe a a live video appearance? Tonight McCain is expected to appear on Letterman after snubbing him for his announced one day suspension of his campaign, only to appear later with Katie Couric on TV. Letterman has been hammering McCain ever since.

Poll shows Obama won debate handily - a CNN/Opinion Research poll showed Obama with 58% and McCain with only 31%. The favorable opinion increased for Obama from 63% to 66% and decreased for McCain, dropping from 51% to 49%. Read more here.

With "Joe the plumber" receiving so much attention in last night's debate, it will be interesting to see who plays him on "Saturday Night Live" - expect a skit using him this Saturday night!

Obama 49.6%, McCain 42.5% is the national poll average - this shows a 7.1 point advantage for Obama and is most likely more accurate than the recent polls showing a larger lead by Obama. Read more details here.

Dow falls 733 yesterday to close at 8577 - Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke did not give encouraging news in a speech when he indicated the economic situation is getting worse. Read more here.

Obama campaign releases new campaign ad - uses some footage from last night debate - although he may not be President Bush, shows McCain saying in his own words how he voted with Bush 90% of the time. You can watch it here.

Obama speaks at breakfast fundraiser in New York - this morning he warned of over confidence and spoke of how hard everyone needs to work through election day. The high end event cost 30, 800 per person with 2,300 going to the Obama campaign and the remaining going to the Democratic National Committee. Read more here.
