Dem Campaign Chatter 10-13-2008

Today, Obama is in Toledo, Ohio where he will give a speech at 1:30 PM ET focused on the economy- Biden is in Rochester and Manchester, New Hampshire before heading to Dover, Delaware. Michelle Obama is in Rochester and St. Paul, Minnesota.

Last Presidential Debate is Wednesday night at 9:00 PM ET - It will be aired by CNN, MSNBC and other cable channels - check your local listings. Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York is the site of this 90 minute debate and will be moderated by Bob Schieffer. The theme of this debate will be domestic and economic issues. We will live blog during the debate here on Air-it-Out with George.

Obama goes door-to-door yesterday in neighborhood in Holland, Ohio - when was the last time you heard of a presidential candidate going door-to-door? It is sure to win over some voters in this neck and neck state. SwampPolitics.com has more here.

While Bill and Hillary Clinton join the Bidens yesterday in Scranton, Pennsylvania - Hillary Clinton says if Obama wins Pennsylvania, he wins the White House. Former President Bill Clinton was off to Virginia. ThePage.time.com has a video of her speech here.

Dow jumps at opening - after a record week of losses, the Dow was up over 400 at the start of the day. This, as investors were happy to see the global government effort of pumping money into the troubled banking systems around the world. Reuters.com has more here.

President Bush is expected to speak to the nation at about 11:00 AM ET. Every previous time he has addressed the nation on the economic crisis, the market has dropped. Let's hope he doesn't jink the early rebound today.

Representative Barney Frank (D-Mass.) says House Democrats ready to propose a second stimulus bill - this would include another round of stimulus checks to individuals, even though the first round did not do the trick. House Minority Whip Roy Blount (R-Mo.) says republicans will work with the democrats on a reasonable bill. TheHill.com has more here.

Senator McCain to give speech on the economy - He is expected to lay out his ideas which are likely to include a variety of tax cuts, including capital gains and on dividends. It is being billed as the beginning of the turnaround for the McCain campaign. Let's see... CNN.com has more here.

You can read the text of his speech here. Not really anything new, another attempt to explain his proposal for buying troubled mortgages. McCain is also saying he is going to clobber Obama in the debate Wednesday night.
