Dem Campaign Chatter 10-6-2008

George Wenschhof

Today, Obama is in Asheville, North Carolina - As expected, Biden's mother-in-law passed away. She had been in a Hospice situation and Biden has cancel any public appearances for the next two days.

RealClearPolitics.com shows Obama 49.5% leading McCain 43.1% - this is the average of 11 national national polls taken from 9-26 to 10-5-2008.

Financial crisis continues global spread - Dow drops 300 - the agreement by the US on a 700+ Billion rescue plan has not stopped the financial crisis from spreading across the world. European countries are now offering guarantees to stem the financial melt down. Reuters.com has more here.

Remember the "Keating Five" and the Savings and Loan crisis from the late 80's and early 90's? - After eight plus years of failed policies pertaining to Savings and Loans, by the Republican administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, the government stepped in with a 500 Billion bail out - sound familiar? When Charles Keating's Savings and Loan came under investigation, Senator McCain and several other Senators who had received contributions from Keating, intervened on his behalf. Keating would go to jail, McCain would receive a slap on the wrist. CNN has a short video you can watch detailing the scandal here.

The Obama campaign is making sure voters are reminded of McCain's action with a thirteen minute documentary video of the incident. It will be available for viewing beginning at noon eastern time, here. It was more of the same reckless deregulatory actions of the Republican George W. Bush administration, supported by Senator McCain, that led to the current financial melt down resulting in the recent 700+ Billion government bail out. You can watch a short preview here.

Voter registration gains favor Democrats - wow! 4 million new voter registrations in a dozen states - eight of them we have listed as too close to call in our electoral-vote update 10-5-2008 post on our site. In Florida the Democrats had a 2 to 1 advantage over Republican new voters. In Colorado and Nevada it is 4 to 1 Democratic and North Carolina, it is a 6 to 1 Democratic advantage. The Washington Post has more here.

McCain-Palin campaign to throw the kitchen sink at Obama - voters witnessed the same "throw everything negative at him and hope something sticks" approach used by Senator Clinton in the Democratic primary when she was behind. So get ready for the slinging of mud. Reverend Wright videos, William Ayers and Antoin Resko associations are just a part of what's to come as Republicans become increasingly desperate.

Here is a link to a ad run by the McCain campaign labeling Obama as dangerous in regard to some statements from Obama pertaining to Afghanistan.
