Sunday Morning "Talking Heads" 10-12-2008

George Wenschhof

There are now, including today, only four more Sunday mornings left prior to the election. Lots to be discussed as urgency has become the main focus for the McCain campaign. The Friday Gallup tracking poll showed it to be Obama with 51% and McCain with 41%. Gallup.com has more here. Newsweek has it Obama 52% and McCain 41%. Read more on their poll here.

The Alaska "troopergate report" is out and it says Governor Palin abused her authority. ThePage.time.com has the entire report here. Expect this to receive plenty of discussion.

As was true last week and actually the entire election campaign, the status of the economy will be examined. The financial crisis continues to dominate the news, as weak markets have spread worldwide. The Dow dropped 128 on Friday to close at 8451.19. The finance ministers of the G-7 and other foreign countries were scheduled to meet with U.S. officials Saturday in Washington. Recommendations from that meeting should have been released, so expect discussion on this.

Also, as the McCain campaign falls further behind in the national polls, the negative attack ads directed at Obama have increased. Politico.com has a good read here as fear and anger tactics have whipped up a frenzy among some Republican voters.

Meanwhile, on the foreign policy front, progress in Afghanistan is sliding backwards and disarray continues in Pakistan as the U.S. have used repeated missile strikes inside their country in recent weeks.

Sunday morning viewing promises to have many lively topics so plan to tune in.

NBC "Meet the Press" - New Jersey Democratic Governor Jon Corzine and former Bush budget director Rob Portman (R-Oh). Also a economic roundtable with Ted Koppel. Paul Gigot, and Erin Burnett.

CBS "Face the Nation" - Democratic Governor Bill Ritter - Colorado - a state that is being hotly contested between the two campaigns. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Democratic Mayor Doug Wilder of Richmond, Virginia, another state going from red to blue. Representative Putman (R-Fla.)

ABC "This Week" - the guests are House Minority Whip Roy Blount (R-Mo.) and Cahir of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank (D-Mass.). The roundtable will include George Will, Cokie Roberts, Dan Balz, and Paul Krugman

Fox News Sunday - the guests will be Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (R) and Governor Ed Rendell (D). Also McCain campaign manager Steve Davis, and Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod.

CNN "Late Edition" - Republican Steve Forbes, along with Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY_ and Arlen Specter (R_Pa.). Also, Democratic strategists Paul Begala and James Carville.
