Dem Campaign Chatter 9-23-2008

Today, Obama is in Tampa, Florida - He will begin his debate preparation for Friday. Biden is in Woodbridge, Viginia and Washington D.C.

"Trash for Cash" - is the new name given to the 700+ Billion bail out of banks from their bad loans. The refusal to issue a Blank Check for 700 Billion that we reported yesterday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has received support from both sides of the aisle.

Pelosi pointed out she wanted independent oversight, protection for homeowners and constraints on excessive compensation - this has now morphed to wanting an ownership stake in the banks by the U.S and a 50 Billion stimulus program. CNN.com has more here.

It took decades of Republican led deregulation to get the country in this mess so to expect giving one man, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, 700 Billion of taxpayer money to spend as he wishes to fix the problem is a bit of a stretch.

After the Dow dropped 372 yesterday to finish at 11,015, Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke will join Paulson today in meeting with Congress pleading for quick action to avoid more failures of financial institutions. Read more here.

Interestingly, Politico.com is reporting it is likely both Obama and McCain will skip the bail out vote. Read more here. Hardly, a profile of courage on the number one issue facing voters today.

Obama leads in Swing States - With six weeks to go, this shows a trend toward Obama which may be attributed to the dismal economy news. Quinnipiac University released new poll numbers showing Obama up in four critical states: Colorado 49-45, Michigan 48-44, Wisconsin 49-42 and Minnesota 47-45. McClatchydc.com has more here. NBC News Poll shows Obama also up in Florida 47-45. Read more here.

Remember, to look for and read our Electoral Vote update on Sunday. Air-it-Out with George will provide an update every Sunday until the election.

Today, Governor Sarah Palin has photo op meetings with a couple of foreign leaders - in an effort to prop up zero foreign policy experience, she has been scheduled to meet with the President Karzai of Afghanistan and President Uribe of Colombia. This, while the UN General Assembly meets in New York. I wonder if Palin really can see Russia from her house.
