Big Gains in Democratic Registration Reported in Frederick County, MD

The following press release was issued by Stuart Harvey, Election Director, Frederick County, Maryland Board of Elections. Overall, Democrats represent 44.5% of the new registrants this year to the Republicans 29.9%. What is also interesting to note is Democrats lead in new registration in 3 of the 4 legislative districts in Frederick County. While Republicans still lead in overall registration by 5 points, this is good news for Frederick County Democrats. Also take note that 42.9% of the new registrants fell in the 17-25 age range. FREDERICK COUNTY'S VOTER REGISTRATION INCREASES BY OVER 7,000

7,007 Frederick County citizens registered to vote between January 1 and June 30, 2008, according to figures from the Frederick County Board of Elections. That represents an increase of 5.9% since the beginning of the year. Current voter registration for Frederick County is 127,218.


"I'm impressed by these numbers", stated Election Director Stuart Harvey. "People are still coming to our office to register to vote on a daily basis, and we continue to receive a significant number of registration forms from MVA and through the mail. I expect this trend to continue through the close of registration on October 14."


In the month of June, 837 people registered to vote. An analysis of current registration and the last six months yields the following figures:

Republicans – 55,455 – 43.6%

Democrats – 48,385 – 38.1%

Unaffiliated/Other parties – 22, 770 – 17.9%

Greens – 336 - .02%

Libertarians – 272 - .02%

Democrats – 1,529 – 51.3%

Republicans – 707 – 23.7%

Unaffiliated – 718 – 24.1%

Democrats – 685 – 42%

Republicans – 509 – 31.2%

Unaffiliated – 424 – 26%

Frederick County residents who still wish to register to vote in the November 4, 2008 Presidential General Election are reminded that the deadline for voter registration is 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14. In order to become a registered voter, individuals must be a U.S. citizen, live in Frederick County, and be at least 18 years of age on or before November 4, 2008.


Voters are further reminded that October 14 is the deadline to make any changes to their name, address, or party affiliation for the General Election. Registered voters can check to see if their registration information is correct by checking the Board's link to the polling place locator at our web site, www.co.frederick.md.us/elections. Changes can be mailed or faxed to the Elections Office.
