January 2009 Can't Come Soon Enough

The news reports just keep on coming and they don't say it all. The Republican George W. Bush administration is likely to go down in history as one of the most damaging to American credibility.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, Ashcroft, et al were intent on invading Iraq from the moment they took office and the horrific events of 9/11 were used to justify this action. A recently released exhaustive report by the Pentagon concluded there were no ties from Saddam Hussein in Iraq to Al Qaeda http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/10/exhaustive-pentagonspons_n_90846.html

Meanwhile, the Iraq war continues at a cost to the taxpayers of 12 Billion a month. As Oil prices have increased to over $100 a Barrel, energy prices soaring, and unemployment rising, this U.S. expenditure in a unjustified war is troublesome, to say the least.

The hits keep coming as Admiral William Fallon, head of U.S. Central Command resigns. As President Bush continues to rattle sabers with Iran and refuse to enter into any diplomatic talks, the head of the military in the Region says enough is enough and resigns.

The Bush administration continues to want to rewrite and extend FISA while House Democrats have proposed a compromise that will probably suffer the fate of a Bush veto. http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/?last_story=/opinion/greenwald/2008/03/12/house_democrats/

Not to be denied a free hand to do as he pleases, President Bush vetoes a Torture Bill that would have applied the (AFM) Army Field Manual Definition of allowable interrogation techniques to all federal agencies, including the CIA. This would have clearly defined water boarding as torture and an unacceptable technique to be used. http://www.aclu.org/safefree/torture/34389prs20080308.html

It's clearly time for a change.
