TalkingPointsMemo.com has a good read on this breaking story. Although he recently opted out of Public Financing, Senator Obama has repeatedly said his campaign would not accept funds from PACs and Lobbyists. This action, by MoveOn.org is significant for in the 2004 presidential election, it is reported that half of the 20m they spent on the election came from donations higher than five thousand. This action will still allow the organization to raise and spend money on behalf of a candidate but effectively limits the size of the donation. Illyse Hogue, a spokesperson for MoveOn told TPM Greg Sargent "This is an affirmation that we, like Senator Obama, believe that this election can be won by ordinary Americans giving small donations."
