Cain Rises as Perry Falls -
in two recent polls, Texas Governor Rick Perry continues to drop, finishing third in both. In the CBS News poll, Mitt Romney is tied for first with Herman Cain at 17%, with Perry at 12%. CBS News has more here.

Democrats Win West Virginia Governor Race -
in spite of a huge effort by national Republicans to defeat acting Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. He won with 50% of the vote over Republican Bill Maloney who received 47%. Tomblin will now serve the remaining one year of former Governor (now U.S. Senator) Joe Manchin's term. You can read more here.

Jobs Act Vote in Flux -
yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to force a vote which was blocked by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. McConnell knew the votes were not there yet and was trying to prove it.

Reid has now countered with a 5% millionaire's tax proposal to pay for the jobs bill. Politico.com has more on this here.

Over in the House, Majority Leader Eric Cantor says the jobs bill will not pass in it's entirety.

So much for bipartisan effort on creating jobs.

the first debate included Elizabeth Warren, who faced five primary opponents last night. The NY Times has a good read here.

Democratic Illinois Representative Jerry Costello Announces Retirement -
he makes the fifth Democrat to announce he will not be seeking another term. His district is a democratic leaning district, but Republicans are hopeful for a competitive contest. RollCall.com has more here.

Occupy Wall Street Goes National -
a unorganized movement without clear goals which began in New York City is now spreading to cities across the United States. It now appears some Unions will join the protests and MoveOn.org will offer support as well. TPM.com has more here.

Palin To Run As Independent? -
interesting question posed by an article in TheHill.com today. She would not be pressed to declare by the filing deadlines rapidly approaching in the early Republican primary states. Her tea party devotees are independent minded and Palin could make a media splash running as an Independent. You can read the article here.
