The primary election is tomorrow, September 15 for the City of Frederick, Maryland. Polls will open at 7:00 AM and will close at 8:00 PM. Poll locations have changed and notices will be put at the old school locations indicating where your new voting poll is located. You can also find out your polling location now by clicking here.
Democratic and Republican voters will be determining their candidates who will move on to the General Election on November 3. Voters from each political party will choose their mayoral candidate and five alderman candidates.
I made my prefernce for Jennifer Dougherty for Mayor known in a previous column entitled "Dougherty is the Right Choice for Mayor". You can read it here.
My picks for alderman were discussed in my column entitled "Strong Democratic Alderman Candidates in City of Frederick, Md. Election". I will be voting for Josh Bokee, Donna Kuzemchak, Carol Krimm, Michael O'Connor, and Kelly Russell. You can read the column here.
Before you vote, read the candidate interviews that are linked in the right hand margin of my website. The Frederick News Post also has a good online section on the City of Frederick election you can read here. Finally, go to the candidate campaign websites that are linked in the right hand margin of my website.
I have written about the need to move the city election date to coincide with the national election (links to columns in right hand margin) which will more than double voter turnout. As of July 23, 2009 there were 15, 385 registered Democrats and 10,009 registered Republicans in the City of Frederick. If past results are a good indication, less than 35% of these registered voters will determine their Political Party nominees for the General Election.
I'd love to see the voters prove that statistic wrong. Go vote tomorrow - Your vote does make a difference!
