Sunday Morning "Talking Heads" Cheat Sheet

George Wenschhof

Falling further behind in the polls, the presumptive Republican nominee; Mitt Romney, sucumbed to conservative pressure, and announced Representative Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his vice president running mate.

The announcement will surely be the main topic of conversation on Sunday morning and the Romney campaign has to hope it will distract from the ever present questions pertaining to Romney's involvement with Bain Capital and his refusal to release additional tax returns.

Ryan, combined with Governor Scott Walker, may help Romney in Wisconsin, one of about a dozen pivotal swing states.  But, Ryan's position on Medicare will be fodder for Democrats and it is likely to cost Romney, the state of Florida.  If, Romney loses the 29 electoral votes in Florida, he can not win the presidency.

It is also unlikely Ryan will help bring the Independent and women vote to Romney. Instead, of making the race close, by bowing to conservative pressure, Romney may have just made this race a blow out by President Obama.

All of this, in spite of having an unemployment rate over eight per cent and an U.S. economy that is treading water, at best.

Look to see over the next couple of weeks, Romney receive a slight immediate boost in the polls from the announcement of Ryan, followed by the Republican National convention.

However, it will then be time for the Democratic National convention in early September, followed by the debates, both of which favor President Obama, in the critical weeks preceding the election.

The roundtable discussion on NBC "Meet The Press" and ABC "This Week" look like fun to watch.  Especially, Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean.  Look to see both have fun with the Ryan pick.  Also, Roger Simon will be included in the CBS "Face The Nation" roundtable discussion and his succinct comments are always a treat.
