George Wenschhof
With less than 100 days to go until the General Election in November, you can expect most of the discussion to focus on the presidential race.
More banter is likely on the extension of the George w. Bush tax cuts as this disagreement between Republicans and Democrats continues. Last week, the Senate passed an extension of the tax cuts for all except those who earn more than $250,000 and the House passed an extension for all.
The less than stellar entry into the international arena by Mitt Romney should receive some chatter by the pundits. Romney's statements on Britain's security preparation for the Olympics and the culture differences between Palestine and Israel did not serve the Republican presidential candidate well.
However, it appears, once again, the Sunday morning "Talking Heads" will be light on their discussion of foreign policy. The Washington Post has a good read on the war in Afghanistan which questions why the presidential candidates are ignoring it.
Pakistan continues to harbor militants and only reluntantly, recently opened supply routes to the U.S. after considerable more U.S. money flowed into the country.
Fighting continues to rage in Syria and the recent resignation of Kofi Annan as U.N. peace envoy will only add pressure for further and direct western involvement in this conflict.
