Egypt Unrest Continues -
after violent clashes between anti and pro government protesters, the army has stepped in to provide protection for the anti government protesters. Prime Minister Ahmed Shafig issued a statement apologizing for the attacks on the anti-government demonstrators and promised an investigation. You can read more here.

Health Care Repeal Fails in Senate -
the attempt by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) failed by a 47-51 vote. The vote was a result of parliamentary moves by both Republicans who added an amendment to a bill and Democrats who used the fact it was an unfunded amendment. the vote was along party lines as expected and came two weeks after the House voted to repeal the health care bill. Obama to Propose New Energy Saving Tax Credit -
today while visiting Penn State in Pennsylvania. The president is expect to tour some Penn State labs and then speak about his proposals which include tax credits for businesses who upgrade to more energy efficient use. Bloomberg.com has more here.

Unfortunately, for the president, all eyes are on the events unfolding in Egypt and few will hear these ideas until his budget is released mid month and discussion heats up on it.

yesterday, the president signed the nuclear arms reduction and verification treaty with Russia. CNN.com has more here.

Peter O'Malley to become Chair of Maryland Democratic Party -
the brother of Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley will be voted on when the Maryland Democratic Party meets in March. Current chair Susan Turnbull recently announced she would be stepping down after serving two years as chair. You can read more here.

Peter O'Malley has vast political experience throughout the state having worked on his brother's run for Mayor of Baltimore and his two campaigns for Governor. Most recently, Peter was the chief of staff for Baltimore County Executive James Smith.
