Join Obama Campaign Kick-Off Call Tonight at 8:30 PM ET

Jim Messina, campaign manager for the Obama 2012 reelection campaign, sent supporters an email today inviting them to join in a telephone conference call tonight April 5th, with President Obama and Vice President Biden.

You can join in the conference call or listen live online with an RSVP here.

If tonight is not good for you, there will be another conference call with David Axelrod on Thursday April 7th, at 7:00 PM ET. You can RSVP to that call here.

This appears to be a continuation of the online strategy that worked so well for Obama in the 2008 election.

Government Shut Down? - President Obama is meeting with Congressional leaders today in hopes of reaching an agreement on a budget for the remainder of the current fiscal year. The latest continuing resolution expires Friday and memos have been sent to government agency heads detailing what will happen if a government shut down does occur. The Washington Post has more here.

Politico.com is reporting, Republicans are offering a one week extension with 12 billion in cuts.

GOP To Propose FY-2012 Budget Tomorrow - in a week that will be consumed with budget madness of the Hill. The continuing resolution for FY'2011 expires Friday and the two sides remain apart in the size of budget for the remainder of the year.

Tomorrow, Representative Dan Ryan (R-Wisc.) will present a budget for 2012 that includes 4 Trillion in cuts over the next ten years. The NY Times has more here.

Who Will replace Kaine as DNC Chair? - is the big question circulating around politicos. DNC chair Tim Kaine is expected to announce soon his intention to run for Virginia U.S. Senate against Republican George Allen.

Former Ohio Governor Tim Strickland is among the front runners for the DNC job, but look to see a woman named. Donna Brazile, former campaign chair for the Al Gore campaign for president comes to mind. She is a frequent political analyst on the T.V. circuit and has been an officer in the DNC for years.

The First Billion Dollar President? - the Obama campaign is expected to announce the reelection effort tomorrow in an email to supporters. The Obama For America campaign, with the central office once again located in Chicago, is expected to file the necessary paperwork tomorrow. The Washington Post has more here.

Fund raising for the 2012 campaign is expected to hit a all time record of one billion. In addition to utilizing large donor bundlers who are expected to raise $350,000 each, the campaign also is successful raising large sums by receiving reqested donations of as little as ten dollars from millions of supporters online.

The Muddled Mess in Libya Continues - the non-war military conflict continues with no more clear objectives than existed prior to when the U.S. special forces intervened in Libya and U.S. led air strikes began.

Who are the rebels and what type of government might emerge upon the removal of Ghadaffi is still an unknown. The Huffington Post has a good read here which discusses the failures of the Obama administration in foreign policy.

Battle To Stop Radiation Leaks Continues in Japan - concrete has been used to stop the leakage of radioactive water from a reactor at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Initial reading indicate the concrete has had little effect, with a strong possibility that multiple breeches exist.

The Japanese government has issued a statement it could take months to fully control the damaged reactors at the plant. Reuters.com has more here.

United Nations Moves Closer to Recognition of Palestinian State - the vote could come as early as September. The vote would recognize the Palestinian state which would include all of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.

Israel has been unable to reach agreement with the Palestinian Authority, despite long time efforts by the United States. Israel President Shimon Peres will meet with President Obama on Tuesday at the White House. The NY Times has more here.
