Some foreign policy discussion will join domestic issues on the Sunday morning "Talking Heads" this weekend. The withdrawal of all combat troops from Iraq took place this past week while the struggle in Afghanistan continues.
The announcement Friday by Secretary of state Hillary Clinton of Israel/Palestine direct peace talks to take place in Washington D.C. beginning September 2 does not appear to be receiving a lot of discussion this coming Sunday.
U.S. General Ray Odierno will appear on both CNN "State of The Union" and CBS "Face The Nation" and share his thoughts on the future of Iraq and the mission of the remaining 56,000 U.S. troops within Iraq.
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai will be a guest on ABC "This Week" - look to see if some hard questions are ask of him; such as what is he doing to rid the wide spread corruption in his government. Expect Karzai to be critical of the u.S. use of Drones to launch missile attacks which have resulted in civilian deaths.
NBC "Meet the Press" gets back to speculation of the mid term elections with guests Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Tea Party founder Dick Armey, and Governor Jennifer Granholm (D-Mich.)
The construction of a Mosque near ground zero in New York City receives some continued scrutiny on ABC "This Week" with the executive director of American Society of Muslim Advancement Daisy Khan and Jewish Community Center Rabbi Joy Levitt.
President Obama's statement pertaining to the importance of freedom of religious belief within the U.S. has become a lightening rod for those who oppose the building of the Mosque at this location.
Former DNC chair Howard Dean who has publicly disagreed with the president on the building of the Mosque, will also be on CNN "State of The Union". Dean has also angered members of Democracy for America (DFA) with his position on this issue. DFA was started by Dean after his loss in the Democratic primary for president in the 2004 election.
The failure of the government prosecutors to obtain a conviction on 22 of the 23 counts of corruption against former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich will be the topic of discussion on Fox New Sunday who will have Blagojevich as their guest. Look to see Blago continue his colorful comments with claims of persecution against him and his family.

A grab bag of topics is sure to be discussed this coming Sunday. The latest "top kill" effort to stop the flow of oil into the gulf appears to be working so far for BP. Admiral Thad Allen will be on several of the morning shows; CNN "State of The Union" and CBS "Face The Nation".
New White House Energy Adviser Carol Browner will appear on NBC "Meet The Press". They will be quick to say they are still requiring BP to use the relief well to close off the damaged well from below. Stay tuned as this horrific spill has had many twists and turns with only one obvious item revealed - there was no plan to stop an oil spill pouring out from miles beneath the ocean.
The federal judge ruling overturning the Gay Marriage Ban in California will also receive discussion, especially on Fox News Sunday who has attorney Ted Olsen as guest. A one time hero of the far right, it was his arguments that led the judge to rule as he did.
What's going on in Iraq and Afghanistan will also receive attention as CNN "State of The Union has Generals Ray Ordierno and Peter Chiarelli. President Obama has said the U.S. is on track to withdraw from Iraq beginning next summer and that time frame is also the same to reassess the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan. It has become painfully clear both wars and subsequent occupation initiated by the George W. Bush administration have been less than successful and an incredible burden to the country's deficit spending.
General Chiarelli will discuss treatment available to veterans suffering from emotional stress. The best treatment would be for the U.S. to withdraw from both countries sooner rather than later.
President Obama finally broke through a Republican filibuster in the Senate to get a 26.1 billion aid to states bill passed. This will help in medicaid expenses and help to avoid teacher lay offs. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calf.) has called house members back from their August recess to vote on this bill next week. Governors Granholm (D-Mich) and McDonnell (R-Va.) will surely add their views on this bill being passed while appearing on CNN "State of The Union".
The ongoing dismal economy and the continuing 9.5% unemployment rate will also get more banter from both sides of the aisle.

President Barack Obama is making the rounds today in London - breakfast with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and meetings with Russia and Chinese Leaders. After a meeting with Russia President Dimitry Medvedev, it was announced Obama would travel to Moscow for nuclear arm reduction talks in July. Reuters.com has more here. Obama will also travel to China at the end of the year to meet with China President Hu Jintao to discuss enhanced U.S. - Chinese relations and strengthening economic and financial cooperation. At a press briefing with PM Gordon Brown, Obama indicated they expected cooperation among world leaders at the G-20 economic crisis summit tomorrow.

White House Director of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers to visit Michigan today - Dr. Ed Montgomery will meet with Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) and her economic staff to discuss efforts being made by the auto task force. Congressional election in New York another close one! - Democrat Scott Murphy is leading by only 65 votes over Republican Jim Tedisco with all precincts reporting. However, there are still 4100 absentee ballots to be counted. Over 150,000 votes were cast in the 20th district in the special election to replace Kristen Gillibrand who was named to fill the vacant Hillary Clinton U.S. Senate seat. While this is a heavily registered republican district, conservative Democrat Gillibrand had won and Obama received 51% of the vote in his election last year. The NY Times has more here.

Meanwhile, Minnesota is still waiting for a U.S. Senator to be named - in a ruling that appears to favor democrat Al Franken, the court ruled to review 400 absentee ballots instead of the 1300 requested by republican Norm Coleman. Franken currently leads by 225 votes so Coleman would need to win 80% of these 400 absentee ballots to overtake Franken. The absentee ballots will be opened and reviewed in court on April 7. However, the likelihood of a Senator heading to Washington to be sworn in is remote as the Coleman campaign has indicated they will appeal the decision. Stay Tuned. CNN.com has more here.

So much for increased White House vetting as Sebelius reveals she also owed back taxes - The last Obama nominee for a cabinet position indicated she had recently paid around $8,000 in back taxes when questioned by a senate sub committee yesterday. It was back taxes that derailed the nomination of Tom Daschle for this position of Secretary of Health and Human Services. With all the attention on AIG bonuses, the firing of GM Richard Wagoner and the President overseas, this is likely to receive little media attention and Sebelius is expected to be confirmed. Today, President Barack Obama will announce the latest bailout plan for automakers - he is expected to make his remarks from the White House around 11:00 AM ET today. Evidently the restructuring plans recently submitted by GM and Chrysler were not acceptable and conditions will be placed on any additional funds. ThePage.Time.com has more here.

GM CEO Rick Wagoner forced to resign after company failed to submit viable plans to save automaker - the president's automakers task force recommended the change after they reviewed the recent restructuring plans submitted by the company. Michigan Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm was not happy to hear the news Wagoner had been forced out by the Obama administration - saying on NBC "Today" "clearly he is a sacrificial lamb". Meanwhile, President Obama continues to push his budget, meeting with the House Democratic Caucus today - the House version of his 3.55 trillion budget is similar to what he submitted so there are not expected to be any battles here. President Barack Obama expresses need for engagement with Russia - this statement came yesterday during a photo-op with British prime minister Gordon Brown. At issue was a planned missile shield deployment in Poland and other countries by the George W. Bush administration that has been fiercely opposed by Russia. Tonight, the President and First Lady will host a Dinner at the White House for chairs of congressional committees.

Vice president Joe Biden will head to Brussels, Belgium next week to meet with NATO officials - the vice president will be discussing Afghanistan and Pakistan with allies. This is part of the strategic review ordered by President Obama. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be there this week in preparation for the NATO conference planned in April. As auto sales drop steeply, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm asks President Obama for help for the industry - The decline is sales from February 2008 were across the board as reported losses for the last year were : GM - 53%, Ford - 48%, and Chrysler - 44%. The NY Times has more here.
Michigan Governor Granholm met with the Obama administration auto industry task force and requested help for the industry. GM and Chrysler have requested an additional 21.6 billion in government loans and the auto suppliers have requested 25.5 billion. You can read more here.

Mike Quigley leads in Democratic primary in race to replace Rahm Emanuel vacant Illinois House seat - the special election Democratic primary had 12 candidates. Cook County commission Mike Quigley was leading with 22% of the vote and around a 2300 vote lead over his nearest competitor. This with 80% of the precincts reporting. It is estimated 50,000 votes were cast. The Democratic party nominee is heavily favored in this Democratic district to beat Republican Rosanna Pulido on April 7. TheHill.com has more here.

The economy continues to be the number one issue facing the Obama administration and Americans. The Dow Jones losses for the week left the close at 7365.67 on Friday, a six year low. So the 787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan (Stimulus bill) and the restructuring of the remaining 350 billion portion of the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) will be the main focus this morning.
Expect a discussion on how all the billions in the Stimulus bill will be spent and on what - there are many Governors appearing as guests today, so how the states will spend their share will receive attention.
Sure to be mentioned at some point is the continuing saga surrounding Senator Roland Burris (D-Ill.) who was appointed to the vacant Barack Obama Senate seat by impeached Governor Rod Blagojevich. Recent revelations by Burris of previously undisclosed contacts with the Governor's staff and his brother concerning the appointment to the Senate seat has led to perjury inquiries in the state of Illinois and a investigation by the Senate ethics committee. Will Burris survive or will he resign will be the question?
On the foreign policy front, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and special envoys have been busy traveling all over the world meeting with foreign leaders. Clinton is in the middle of a trip to Asia, Richard Holbrooke has been to India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and George Mitchell has visited the Middle East. All have current pressing issues so there is a possibility any or all will be discussed this morning. Sure to be mentioned is the 17,000 troop build up in Afghanistan announced by President Obama earlier in the week.
So make sure your coffee is made and plan to settle in for some interesting discussion Sunday morning. The following is a list of the "Talking Heads" shows and their scheduled guests. Remember to check your local listings for the time and channel.

ABC "This Week" - George Stephanopoulos will talk with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. California just passed their budget after heated debate. The roundtable discussion will include George Will, Suzy Welch, Nouriel Roubini and Paul Krugman.
CBS "Face The Nation" - Bob Schieffer will have HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan along with Governors Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Mitch Daniel (R-IN), and Ted Strickland (D-OH).
Fox News Sunday - Chris Wallace will interview Governors Ed Rendell (D-PA), Jennifer Granholm (D-Mich), Mark Sanford (R-SC0, and Tim Pawlenty (R-MN).
CNN "State of The Union" - John King will also have California Governor Schwarzenegger (R). Additional guests are Governor Haley Barbour (R-Miss.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) and HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.
