Daily Political Wire 6-15-2010

George Wenschhof

This morning, President Obama is in Pensacola, Florida -
he will make remarks at a military base and then return to Washington. Tonight, at 8:00 PM ET, broadcast on prime time television, the president addresses the nation in what may be one of the most important speeches of his young presidency.

He is expected to talk about the need for BP to establish an escrow account to handle the claims from the loses from the oil spill and to ask for an independent panel to handle claims. he is also expected to declare the need for a new national energy program. The climate/energy bill has been stuck in Congress for some time. Politico.com has more here.

In addition, the president needs to talk about who is in charge of the cleanup and what is being done to clean up the oil, protect wildlife, restore beaches and wetlands.

South Carolina Senate candidate Vic Rawl to protest primary vote -
on Thursday, he will appear before the state Democratic Party executive committee to plead his case. he lost the recent primary to a little known opponent; Alvin Greene by 18 points.

His campaign manager; Walter Ludwig immediately following the election pointed out huge differences in results from absentee ballots and those from the voting machines. The voting machines were purchased from surplus which have now been banned in Louisiana. In addition, there have been claims total votes cast in precincts exceeded the total number of registered voters.

I worked with Walter Ludwig and Terry Lierman on the Maryland for Dean campaign and found him to be credible with his analysis and thorough in his work. If he is saying something doesn't look right, it deserves further review. Stay tuned...
