Lynch Withdraws, Joins Dougherty for Mayor Campaign

George Wenschhof Bio

Today, after Jennifer Dougherty announces she is running for Mayor of The City of Frederick, Maryland, Jack Lynch will end his campaign.

Mr. Lynch will be joining Ms. Dougherty's campaign as the webmaster. Mr. Lynch, a former columnist on Air-it-Out with George Wenschhof, announced his candidacy for Mayor with a two-part column on the site back in July 2008.

He stated that he feels Dougherty's experience, redevelopment success on Carroll Creek, cautious budgeting and financial responsibility, along with her support for public involvement in local government makes her the best choice for the city voters. He believes with Ms. Dougherty coming off a Congressional race with strong city support and a large campaign organization makes her the immediate front runner.

When asked why he was dropping out of the race for Mayor Mr. Lynch said "Politics is the art of compromise, fueled by rhetorical debate and challenge on issues, but in the end requires a realistic collaboration and the wisdom to change course. Many times the best man for the job is a woman! Jennifer inspires my confidence, I value her leadership, and I respect her judgment. Service to the citizens is my first goal all around - Jennifer offers that in spades".

Jennifer Dougherty responded to Mr. Lynch's endorsement with the following: " I respect Jack's passion and commitment. He got involved in Frederick 101 and the NACs when I served as Mayor, his desire to be involved is just what is needed in our City. His support for my candidacy is based on mutual respect and shared vision for the City. We know that openness and transparency are the foundations for good government and we share a commitment to make that happen again in City Hall. Jack has been a vocal supporter of smart growth policies and wants to work hard to maintain our high quality of life. I am so pleased that his is supporting my candidacy for Mayor, I know we will both work hard to make it happen."
