Sunday Morning "Talking Heads" Lineup -
It is all about the nation's budget with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and former Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan appearing on several shows. Also making appearances will be Republican Paul Ryan (Wisc.) who will talk about his 6 trillion reduction plan. Politico.com has a quick rundown below.

House Passes Ryan Budget Plan -
yesterday, the vote was 235-193 with no Democrats voting in favor of the 6 trillion budget reduction plan. The bill which includes drastic revisions in medicaid and medicare has no chance of passage in the Senate. Time.com has more here.

Obama Says he Will Not Abide To Czar Section in Budget Agreement -
the recently negotiated budget deal for the remainder of this fiscal year was signed into law by the president yesterday. However, he added a "signing statement" that essentially says he will not abide by the section in the bill that defunded Czars he had appointed. The appointments were made to get around the required Senate confirmation of senior White House advisers. TheHill.com has more here.

Job Training programs Cut in budget Agreement -
in the negotiated agreement for the balance of this fiscal year, job training programs were cut by 870 million. However, members from both sides of the aisle have been critical of the job training programs currently in place and questions abound as to their effectiveness. The Washington Post has more here.

Since the financial crisis began and unemployment soared, I have been a proponent for a federal funded public service employment program which would put many of the current unemployed to work immediately and am at a loss to explain why no effort has been made by Congress to do so.

Battle for Libya Continues -
no sign from Gaddafi he is ready to step down as government forces continue to attack rebel held cities across the country. Meanwhile, dissension within NATO continues and the clamor for "boots on the ground" grows. Reuters.com has more here.

Union Busting in Wisconsin -
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's proposal to cut benefits of public employees and to end their collective bargaining rights has state Democratic officials hiding outside of the state to avoid the vote passing.

The proposal is spreading to other states with Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee considering similar proposals. The NY Times has more here.

House Passes 61 Billion in Cuts -
the House, in a rare Saturday morning vote, passed 61 Billion in cuts for a continuing resolution to fund government for the remainder of this fiscal year. The vote was 235-189, largely along party lines.

This sets up a showdown in the Senate where senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has vowed to not passed the cuts proposed by the House. The current continuing resolution passed during last year's lame duck session funds government agencies through March 4.

Sunday Morning "Talking Heads" Lineup -
Politico.com has a preview of this week's "Talking Heads". This week the discussion will focus on the budget with a continuing resolution set to expire in less than two weeks, a debt ceiling that needs to be raised and the House voting to approve 61 Billion in cuts. In addition, expect analysis of the 3.7 Trillion FY 2012 budget released by President Obama this week.

Fourth Democratic Senator Announces Retirement -
New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman makes the sixth U.s. senator to announce they will not be running next year. Democrats currently hold a slim majority in the senate with 51 and 2 independents who caucus with them. CNN.com has more here.

Yesterday, former President Bill Clinton weighed in on the Tax Cut Compromise -
in a big way as he took the stage in the White House press briefing room. After, meeting privately with President Obama, the two appeared before reporters. Obama left the room to meet the First Lady at a holiday event leaving Clinton alone, back in his element, facing the press.

Clinton did not disappoint, as he made a compelling argument to pass the tax cut compromise.

Sunday morning "Talking Heads" Lineup -
as the lame duck congress rapidly comes to an end, the discussion will center on pending bills. The tax cut compromise will receive a majority of the attention with White House senior adviser David Axelrod appearing on several of the morning talk shows. Also, sure to be mentioned is the ratification of the START Treaty, repeal of D.A.D.T., and the DREAM Act.

President Obama Pivots to Tax Code Overhaul -
expect him to push for a major revision of the tax code in his state of the union address early next year. A needed change recommended by the bipartisan deficit reduction committee and federal reserve chair Ben Bernanke.

The last change was made in 1986, after an appeal from President Reagen in his 1984 state of the union address. The NY Times has more here.

Miller Loses legal appeal in Alaska Senate Race -
hopefully, the outcome will now be decided soon in his battle against incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski. A federal judge ruled against a challenge by Miller that 8,159 write-in ballots had not spelled her name correctly, therefore violating state law. Miller has until tuesday to appeal to the state supreme court.

The state official count had Murkowski with a 10,000 vote lead over Miller. Reuters.com has more here.

President Obama to campaign for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley -
on Thursday October 7, the president will appear with O'Malley at a campaign event most likely at a location in Prince Georges County. You can read more here.

O'Malley is locked in a close contest with former Republican Governor Robert Ehrlich. Obama continues to travel across the country, attending Democratic events with hopes he can energize the Democratic base to get out and vote in the mid term elections.

Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman hold debate Number 2 in California Governor race this morning -
this comes after revelations surfaced that Republican candidate Meg Whitman had employed an illegal immigrant as domestic help for an extended period of time. Despite spending 120 million of her own money, Whitman is trailing former Democratic Governor Jerry Brown. You can read more here.
