Going Bald for Children with Cancer!

"Be Brave - Go Bald!" That's what I'll be hearing on Saturday April 11th, 2009 as I am called to the stage to be shorn. And by shaving my head I'll not only be raising money for research to end the #1 disease killer among children, cancer, but I'll also be "showing" my support for those children who don't have a choice of whether or not they'll lose their hair.

What can you do? You can pledge your support to me in the form of a donation. I have my own web page,
http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-56580, which you can access in order to make an online donation. The economy is not in the greatest shape right now and for that reason I would normally be hesitant to send out a message asking for donations. However, there is such a great feeling knowing that we are helping children have a shot at a full life. Who knows, maybe one of them will grow up to create and manage a stable economy!!!

I also encourage you to come down to the Crystal City Sports Pub, 529 23rd Street South, Arlington, VA 22202, on Saturday April 11 and see the shaving of my head first hand. There will be a raffle drawing, a silent auction, and you can also get your picture taken with an actual leprechaun!

As we approach the final months of fundraising and head towards the fun shaving weekend, it may be easy for all those involved to forget about the reason we are doing this. I ask everyone to remember that children's cancer is something real and something that effects the lives of people every day. St. Baldrick's gives us a forum to help fight this terrible disease, but as we shave our heads and knock back a drink or two, we must keep in mind those that are battling cancer, those who have successfully defeated it, and those who unfortunately could not win their battle.

If you are able, make sure to watch Good Morning America and America's News Room on Fox as one of our participants, Miss Virginia Tara Wheeler, goes on to spread the word about St. Baldrick's and asks for help to reach the $500,000 fund raising goal that the Miss America Board has set for her to be able to shave her head with the rest of us.

Thank you all for your time and I hope you can make it out on April 11th to see me go bald for children's cancer research!
