Vice President Joe Biden in Iraq for Fourth of July -
accompanied by his wife Jill, they will meet with U.S. troops. He also has a meeting scheduled with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Ayad Allawi to help nudge them to form a coalition government. U.S. troops are now at 82,000 in Iraq, down from a high of 170,000 and the plan is to reduce to 50,000 by the end of August. Politico.com more here.

Gulf Oil Spill Commission to hold meeting -
the commission President Obama appointed to make recommendations on off-shore drilling will meet July 12 and 13 in New Orleans. The commission is led by former Senator Bob Graham and former EPA Director Bill Reilly. Reuters.com has more here.

More Sex and Politics emerge in ex-Florida GOP state chair fraud case -
this time, it is Jim Greer who allegedly made sexually lewd comments to a woman fundraiser. Meridith O'Rouke has accused the former GOP state party chair of "making inappropriate sexually related comments in her presence". She was the major fundraiser for governor Charlie Crist. Democrats face challenges in mid term elections -
in addition to the economy continuing to be stagnant which will be a boost to Republican candidates, voter turnout will be lower than the 2008 presidential election. The NY Times has more here.

With the loss of Obama on the ticket, Democrats are facing losses in congressional districts won narrowly in 2008. Voter turnout in mid term elections is also 10-20% lower than in presidential elections.
