NATO Investigating Air Strikes Caused Civilian Deaths in Libya - an unfortunate, but familiar outcome of military action. In spite of "smart bombs" and intelligence, innocent civilians often become casualties. Forbes.com has more here.
Any visions of short term U.S. involvement in Libya are fanciful, for as former Secretary of State Colin Powell said, when speaking of Iraq, "once you break it, you own it".

Radioactive Water Continues to Leak Into Ocean - as long suspected, the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan has cracks which have resulted in radioactive particles being released directly into the ocean. The impact is yet to be determined. The Washington Post has more here.

Republican National Committee Proposes Presidential Debates - a series of six debates among Republican candidates is proposed with candidates also being asked to raise money for the party. Major League Baseball Underway, Orioles in First Place! - the sounds of Spring include those heard around the country at major league stadiums as the baseball season is underway. Hope springs eternal as the first games have been played. My beloved Baltimore Orioles began the long 162 game season with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie looked like a Cy Young candidate as he pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits. After 13 years of losing seasons, Baltimore fans have hope with the off season acquisitions and emergence of a young starting pitching staff, the losing string will be over.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) says no agreement has been reached on the budget for the remainder of the current fiscal year which ends September 30. He stresses the need to "get moving" as the current continuing resolution ends in less than one week. He also pointed out Republicans had succeeded in cutting 10 billion in the two short term budget extensions passed already.

Spread of Radiation from Japan Still Unknown - the efforts continue to contain the leak of radioactive material from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant. High levels of cesium 137 have been detected in soil samples outside the 20 mile evacuation zone, leading some to call for the evacuation zone to be extended. Radiation levels have been detected in milk, tap water and sea water. The NY Times has more here.
