McConnell Proposal Only Muddies Budget Talks -
talks with Congressional leaders continue at the White House today, following Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) proposal yesterday to give President Obama authority to cut up to 700 million in increments. Seems no one is willing to compromise on taxes or entitlements at this point. Yet, as the August 2 deadline for default on the nation's debt nears, look to see an agreement reached. Japan Prime Minister Calls for End to Nuclear Power -
in the aftermath of the Fukushima Nuclear plant meltdown caused by the earthquake and tsunami. Naoto Kan has called for Japan to be free of reliance on nuclear power for energy. The Washington Post has more here.

A U.S. Task Force, established by President Obama after the Japan nuclear plant disaster has already reported the need for sweeping safety changes to be implemented for the 104 nuclear plants in operation across the country. TheHill.com has more here.

Democrats Win First Battle in Wisconsin Recall -
In the effort to replace Republican state senators who voted for the union busting bill. As, Wisconsin has open primaries, republicans had put up six candidates to oppose the Democratic candidates seeking to oust sitting republican state senators. A primary election was forced as a result. However, all six democrats won in the primary leading to a general election against the incumbent republican state senators. Stay tuned... the tea party darling and Republican Representative Michele Bachmann who is running for president, has touted her experience as a small business owner. turns out the business, Bachmann and Associates is a christian counseling service which has stirred controversy over it's therapy aimed at changing one's sexual orientation.
